Jurist commends implementation of local governments
The jurist said so when delivering a lecture on the importance of local elections, an event promoted by the provincial department of youth and sports, in the ambit of a learning project designed for young people.
He explained that the current model of centralised governance must make room for autonomous administration (local governments), which will be able to give faster response to the aspirations of the citizens.
He defended that the local governments ought to be implemented gradually because not all municipalities have the financial capacity to become self-sustaining.
The lecturer also appealed for caution in terms of the expectations regarding the institutionalisation of local governments, since he thinks they will not resolve the problems at once, due to financial and economic constraints, however, he underscored their importance in the immediate decrease of regional asymmetries.
The first local elections in Angola are set to take place in the year 2020.
