God willing, Trump will prevail
Hartford: I have decided to give my vote to Mr. Donald Trump. As a former Democrat, I just have enough of the Clinton family and I really think that Trump is worthy of a chance to demonstrate his abilities as this nation’s leader. I can see that he born to be a leader.
Hillary Clinton already had her opportunity while her husband was President. Why she did not gave all her ideas to her husband while he was in the White House, to help him to do a better job? Now she wants to be the President to humiliate him — to show that she is better leader than her husband.
Some people say that Trump does not have the experience, but it is like any other job: if nobody gives you the opportunity, when are you going to develop your abilities? If it is God’s will for Trump to win, no matter the opposition, he will win.
I admire the risky support and propaganda of the young man who climbed Trump Tower, but it is better to pray to God asking him not to give us what we deserve, but what we really need as a President for this beloved nation. To this young man I say: please don’t risk your life for politics. You’ll do better on your knees. Lydia Aponte
A costly climb
Brooklyn: Can any body tell Joe Public how much this mutt who climbed Trump Tower cost taxpayers like me to make sure this idiot didn’t hurt anybody? To the Fire Department, Emergency Services, NYPD and all the other agencies that responded: Good job . All for a schmuck. Jeffrey P. Smith
Faces in the crowd
Madison, N.J.: Re “Donald Trump trashes Hillary Clinton over Omar Mateen’s father at rally” (Aug. 11): Let’s see. One is the father of a terrorist (who killed 49 people and wounded 53), supports the Taliban and said “God will punish those involved in homosexuality.” The other sent sexually suggestive emails and messages to congressional pages. Mike Clarke
Other side of story
Silver Spring, Md.: I’m tired of reading that anyone who supports Trump is a moron — well, maybe I think Clinton supporters are morons. Hillary Clinton is a proven liar, many times. While the Khans got lots of coverage, why was there no coverage of Clinton lying to Pat Smith, mother of Sean Smith? Was his death less than Cpt. Khan’s? Mena Marano
Target practice
Brooklyn: If you’re going to blame the heinous attack on Rep. Gabby Giffords partially upon the irresponsible “crosshairs” ad that SarahPAC ran, then how in good conscience can you republish that ad (“Donald Trump’s threat against Clinton has parallels to Sarah Palin’s 2010 PAC ad,” Aug. 10)? Isn’t that an incitement to further violence? Byron Johnson
Another choice
Old Town, Maine: Re “Who is Evan McMullin?” (Aug. 8): He can’t be worse than the two disasters running now. Sylvia-Lee Alden
A hero’s sacrifice
Brooklyn: “Agony in cop slay” (Aug. 12) is such a sad story, but with a positive aspect. It’s not unusual to hear about a fatherless child in my community committing crimes, but here is a story about a father who came to his child’s rescue only to be murdered by a heartless heathen. The constant crime committed by sociopathic youth in black communities, terrorizing the good people who live among them, is unacceptable. Gerald Cummings is a hero. Just sorry his story didn’t end the way it should have, with the thugs going to jail. Why do so many underage people have access to guns? Every day there is another shooting! Something has to be done about the ridiculous amount of firearms in minority neighborhoods. I was never against stop and frisk, just the disrespectful way it was carried out. It needs to be put back into use by police in minority neighborhoods. It’s safer if kids aren’t carrying guns for fear of getting stopped. Joyce D. Powell
In the line of fire
Brooklyn: It is very sad that a man would lose his life defending his son. Black lives matter — or is that only when police are involved or certain individuals see a chance to obtain publicity? If so this is very unfortunate. Joel Moss
Police action
Manhattan: It is about time that a police officer is being held accountable for his actions (“Stomp cop is given the boot,” Aug. 11). It troubles me is that when it is a police officer of color being accused of a crime or police brutality, the criminal justice system seems less reluctant to charge and hold police accountable, and when it’s a white police officer, they seem to always walk away with no repercussions. Why is that? Peter Pappalardo
Paycheck politics
Rego Park: A City Hall spokeswoman says that in order to retain skilled staff, City Hall has to offer competitive wages (“City haul,” Aug. 12). Maybe she should remind her boss that New York City police officers are paid 30% less than police officers in surrounding areas. Eddie Carr
When schools worked
Flushing: Voicer Robert Friedman is right. The school system wasn’t broken; they should have left it alone. Now look what we have. The powers that be are a bunch of idiots. Joseph Gross
Suspend the suspensions
Bronx: As teachers who attended the Aug. 8 school climate hearing, we couldn’t disagree more with the conclusion that educators demonstrated opposition to the mayor’s proposal to end grade K-2 suspensions (“Foes hit school suspension ban,” Aug. 9). We attended the hearing to enthusiastically show our support. We are disheartened to see our union representing such opposition on behalf of teachers — an unfounded claim about our perspectives as educators and union members. It’s true, we don’t just want an end to early-grade suspensions. We want both this policy change and the support and resources to attend to our students’ social and emotional needs when they are disruptive. We want what’s best for our students and New York City children. Ending K-2 suspension is an important step forward — we must take it. Phillippa Bishop, Kristina Kelley and Kevin Yarbrough
Trans peril
Bronx: Thank you for highlighting the injustice against our transgender sister Gigi (“Model Gigi Gorgeous says she was detained at Dubai airport for being transgender,” Aug. 10). However, if you were to look closer to home you will realize that this year around 18 trans people have been murdered and 13 or so of them were women of color. The last year was the deadliest on record for trans people in America. So while highlighting the injustice of one please don’t ignore the injustice that many of us are dealing with at home. Octavia Y. Lewis
Pledge for the Pledge
Anchorage, Alaska: Some things shouldn’t change, like love, kindness, human decency, manners, respect, knowing the difference between right and wrong, love of country. I stand up against Gersh Kuntzman’s idea that we do away with the Pledge of Allegiance and strongly disagree with the idea we as proud Americans should not proudly want to put our hands over our hearts when we hear our National Anthem (“Gabby Douglas does not need to apologize for not putting her hand over her heart,” Aug. 11). While I proudly served these United States of America for 28 years in uniform and respect his right to say that, the America that I know and believe in will not let it happen .Kristine Schuster
Girlfriend, we gotta talk
Oviedo, Fla.: Can someone please tell Michael’s ex to get a life and move on (“Michael Phelps’ intersex ex-girlfriend goes on rant,” Aug. 11). Stop trying to remain relevant. You are the past. Obviously, Michael has moved on and is enjoying his success, girlfriend and son. Sing the “Frozen” song with me: Let it go! Let it go! Jacqueline Jordan
Under the sea
Brewster, N.Y.: It’s wonderful that a fisherman caught this rare blue lobster and all, but he has the photos, everyone knows he caught it already, and he’s not planning to eat it — so throw it back (“Rare blue lobster caught near Cape Cod,” Aug. 11). You’re going to force the poor thing to live out its life in a tank just so you can take credit for fishing it out? Frame a photo of it and send it back to sea! Eileen McDermott
Change ever thus
Chester, N.Y.: To Voicer Cynthia Diaz: Your neighborhood used to be white before the people who live there now changed the culture. Why was it OK for your friends and family to change that culture? She goes on to say “You want quiet? Move to Maine.” Really? Just imagine the outrage if a white person said such a thing! Jeff Sash
